This is a transcript of a speech by Wadah Khanfar, Director of the Al Jazeera network (2003-11) on the role played by the media during the Arab Spring uprisings. He argues that a new form of collaboration emerged between new media and traditional media which allowed dramatic and authentic coverage of the events to be broadcast to a global audience.
