The author examines the formal strategies of the US and Canadian armed forces within the context of organizational theory as currently favored by North American corporations. He argues that the inclination of both armies to internalize business concepts and strategies has left them in a precarious position with regard to strategy formulation and direction, which could jeopardize the relevance of their land forces.
