This paper argues that since the EU has the diplomatic resources, the credibility and the civilian power to facilitate conflict resolution, these capabilities should be utilized in the Middle East. The author contends that the Middle East conference convened by President Bush for the autumn of 2007 provides a window of opportunity for peace-making, and in this context Europe can no longer hide behind the US.
