This commentary discusses the implications of Cyprus’ presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2012. The author argues that this may lead to the deterioration of the Turkish-Cypriot dispute over the status of the island and possibly also of Turkey-EU relations. The author proposes that the EU should become more actively engaged and should try to revive accession negotiations with Turkey.
