This issue of the CAD zeros in on the Armenian public’s violent reaction to a government-planned hike in electricity costs. The three articles focus on 1) whether or not the “Electric Yerevan” movement marked a ‘tipping point’ for spontaneous, popularly-driven change; 2) what the protests revealed about the dysfunctional “input channels” that exist in Armenian politics; and 3) how socio-cultural factors affect and even undermine popular protest movements.
