This report discusses the security options and responses in Jonglei (South Sudan). While it is crucial to gain control over weapons possession, the authors believe that certain pre-conditions for long-term security provision and the establishment of peaceful relations need to be met before any attempts at recovering illegal weapons from civilians could have any sustainable impact. With this in mind, they set out some options for security responses in Jonglei, under civilian oversight, and the possible role of international actors in this regard.
