This paper identifies the important lessons learned from NATO's Libya operation. The author demonstrates that, although the operation can be considered a success from a number of perspectives, this should not cloud our vision regarding six important points – among them the need to put the use of air power in an appropriate perspective, the importance of cultural advisers, and the role of strategic communication. If the experience of Operation Unified Protector is ultimately to offer lasting benefits, these lessons must point the way for future thinking.
