This is a case study examining sector budget support (SBS) in the health sector in Tanzania between 1999 and 2008. It is part of a broader study by the Strategic Partnership with Africa Task Team whose overall purpose is to draw together experience of SBS to guide future improvements in policy and practice by partner countries and donors. The additional objective of this case study is to assess the lessons from experience to date in the health sector and to provide the Government of Tanzania (GoT) and donors with guidance that will help them improve the design and implementation of SBS in future.
