This paper gauges the dimensions of India‘s military diplomacy including military cooperation agreements and joint military exercises with major powers and regional actors in the Indian Ocean and East Asia. The author identifies some of the limitations that constrain India‘s military diplomacy and evaluates its future prospects. He also examines the enduring political tensions in India‘s world view between the traditional ideas of nonalignment and the new imperatives of a rising power.
