This paper attempts to provide some transparency and analysis of the private military industry. The author explores what this industry is and where it comes from, assesses the role of the private military industry in Iraq, and discusses the broader implications that Iraq has brought to the forefront of global politics and national policies. The paper concludes with a set of policy responses the authors considers necessary for private military companies to meet the security needs of the 21st century.
