Because of the profound political changes resulting from the Arab Spring, the majority of Middle Eastern terrorist organizations are faced with a serious challenge to maintain their positions in the region. Most probably, the situation will force them to modify their current modes of operation. The EU should use this situation to encourage the likes of Palestinian Hamas to transform into a solely political organization without rewarding it too early for a presumptive abandonment of terrorism.
