The assumption of leadership by Kim Jong-un will not alter the position of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on the issue of denuclearization. The prospect for DPRK concessions in this area is low, especially in 2012, given that the North Korean regime will be focused on the consolidation of power. Rather, the international community should press North Korea to “freeze” its nuclear and missile programs.
