This file deals with the phenomenal political emergence of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in Egypt, Jordan, Syria and the Palestinian territories. The authors argue that there is little connection and similarity between different Brotherhood factions but the Egyptian group certainly serves as a blueprint for all. Given the MB's political clout the EU should not, in its aid and cooperation program, differentiate among religiously inspired parties, entities or officials, and those that are not religiously inspired, as long as they abide by fundamental rules indicated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
