The ECOWAS Parliament-DCAF guide seeks to equip African parliamentarians with the tools and knowledge needed to effectively oversee their country's security sector. To assist, the guide also offers examples of the ways in which parliaments around the world have responded to the challenges of security sector oversight. In doing so, the guide presents a set of practices and mechanisms that have either proved successful or hold a promise of success in the West African region.
