This report discusses the media freedom in China. For the large part of history after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) established its rule, the Chinese mass media played the role of the mouthpiece of the party. It was used as an instrument to extend the views and opinions of the party leadership, with respect to both domestic as well as foreign policy. But over the years the mass media has become more responsible in its behavior and has shifted its allegiance from the party to the people.
