The situation demonstrates that there is a certain level of misunderstanding between Ukraine and the Energy Community in terms of the purposes of the organisation. This paper assesses the actual progress made by Ukraine during the first year of its membership of the Community. The progress achieved by Ukraine in terms of compliance of internal norms with the Energy Community acquis communautaire represents an opportunity to verify the extent to which political declarations correspond with actions. On this basis, the author tries to identify the main problems that may influence future relations between the EU and Ukraine in the sphere of energy and – more generally – the future of the country’s European integration process.
