This article examines the increase in grievances of Tibetans, resulting in protests, violent outbursts and acts of self-immolation by monks and nuns. Providing a historical background to accompany the analysis, the author writes that the protests are a manifestation of the cultural and religious anxiety that the population share against China’s policies, which have led to a process of coercive integration of the Tibetans through Sinification. He argues that all of these acts as further fuel to the rising cultural nationalism among Tibetans in China.
