Russia has seen a dynamic development of the internet, today an everyday tool of work, information and entertainment for 40% of Russians – the most educated, active and affluent part of society. The spread of the internet has brought about political and social consequences, however the potential of the internet has also been used by the Russian government, to shape public opinion and to monitor civil initiatives, especially opposition ones.
