This policy brief discusses the status of witness protection programs in African countries and the problems they face. Yes, the importance of these programs is widely understood, but their implementation at the national and intergovernmental levels remains weak because of funding and skills shortages, limited international cooperation, and a lack of political will. In response to these problems, the text’s authors close their analysis by providing recommendations on how to improve future witness protection efforts.
