Since 1973, when ballistic and cruise missiles were used for the first time in the Middle East, missile inventories have constantly been growing. In light of the worsening relations between Iran and the Gulf states, the modernization of regional arsenals, their increasing strategic capacities and their possible association with weapons of mass destruction, enabling confidence and security building measure and engaging a disarmament process relating to ballistic arsenals would seem to be a matter of great urgency.
