This paper discusses the progress of regional peace processes and human rights dialogue in which Switzerland was involved in 2007. Peace promotion and the strengthening of human rights are two of the principal objectives of Swiss foreign policy and the government allocated CHF 53 million (US$55.9m) to such measures in 2007. Most of the ongoing political peace processes in which Switzerland was directly involved either stagnated or suffered a reversal. Despite this highly challenging political climate, however, significant progress was made with regard to human rights dialogue with Vietnam, and in relation to peace processes in Burundi, Northern Uganda and Nepal.
