This policy brief discusses trade relations between the EU and Asia in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. EU trade with East Asia dipped dramatically after the financial crisis but recovered in 2012. There is growing concern that Asian economies will be hit hard by the euro crisis and that trade and investment with Europe may suffer. The author argues that in order to maintain current levels of European trade in Asia, the EU must compete with China’s growing regional presence.
