Following on from the China-EU Summit of 2012, this policy brief discusses relations between the EU and China. The author contends that following a low point in 2008, the summit injected new confidence and momentum into the strategic partnership. Despite progress, the partnership still falls short of realising its potential, however, due to the reluctance of the parties to make reciprocal concessions and bridge their differences. China and the EU take different approaches to the partnership, which are not incompatible but demand more mutual understanding.
