Against the backdrop of a shifting world order and the emergence of India as an economic power, this policy brief discusses the country's role in international affairs. While the West expects India to play a bigger role, deep-seated factors constrain proactive Indian foreign policy. The author argues that the EU should develop a more nuanced understanding of India and the factors driving its foreign policy in order to cultivate a more harmonious relationship with the Asian power.
