This paper examines the constantly increasing role of the Internet in the Chinese political, social and economic spheres. The author reconsiders the functioning of the internet as a true ‘boundary-less space’ in the context of a Communist country. In closed regimes like that of China, the internet is heavily guarded by the State authorities. Nevertheless, it is breaking boundaries of political and social decorum, thus giving rise to new phenomena, such as the emergence of a networking society.
