Following the death of Moammar Gaddafi in October 2011, Libya’s ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) quickly formed a government and announced an electoral calendar. However, the tasks ahead are huge. The international community should now direct its effort towards improving economic governance; assisting in the complex management of Libya’s tribal and ethnic divisions; and the development of more democratic security structures.
