This paper examines the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DD&R) programs designed for children and youth in Afghanistan. After providing an overview of the context in which DD&R is taking place, the paper examines the planning, coordination, and implementation of the program to demobilize and reintegrate war-affected young people within the overall framework of Afghanistan's reconstruction process. Finally, it focuses on weaknesses in the program's strategy, design and implementation and raises concerns regarding the program's effectiveness and sustainability.
