This commentary addresses how the potential for conflict over Iran’s nuclear program could affect the Southern Caucasus region. The author argues that even though it seems that Azerbaijan is not aligned with Israel in its preparations to attack, and there is no real link between Iran the movements of Russian troops in the Caucasus, the tensions between Iran and Azerbaijan are running high. To add fuel to the fire, the global image of the Caucasus is deteriorating, the US’s position in the region is becoming more complicated, and Russia’s room for maneuver is expanding.
