This paper discusses how the rights of Palestinian women could be protected through legislation. According to the authors, many Palestinians believe that some of the applicable laws relating to the security of Palestinian women and girls do not provide sufficient protection to women and need to be reformed. One of the problems is the lack of a unified legal framework in the occupied Palestinian territory. Different laws apply in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, many of which were inherited from the colonial period. This mixture of Jordanian, Egyptian, Palestinian, Ottoman and British laws, as well as Israeli military orders accounts for the many inconsistencies in the legal framework.
