This report provides perspectives from American businesses about why they hire veterans, as well as the risks, challenges and disadvantages of doing so. Hiring veterans is good business, according to the research presented. The companies interviewed reported 11 reasons they hire veterans, with an emphasis on veterans' leadership and teamwork skills, character and discipline. Companies also reported challenges associated with hiring veterans, particularly regarding veterans' difficulty in translating their military experience to the civilian workplace and concerns about future deployments by National Guard members and reservists.
