This paper aims to answer a number of questions arising from the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq. The authors outline and describe a number of political and military lessons NATO might learn from the experience of the US-led coalition. They also discuss potential short term policy options aimed at stabilizing the political and security situation in Iraq and minimizing the impact of an organized guerilla war against coalition forces. They conclude by discussing how the Iraq conflict affected the broader theoretical debate on international relations.
