This paper looks at the potentials and challenges of a US-Republic of Korea Cooperation in International Development. South Korea is a relatively new donor and the US decided to increase the role of aid in its diplomatic strategy, and called for reforms in its assistance programs. The paper finds that despite the shared intent to cooperate on the common goal of providing effective development assistance, the successful implementation of a common agreement requires that the United States and South Korea identify the obstacles to collaboration and the opportunities, interests, and capabilities necessary to effectively pursue joint cooperation.
