This testimony addresses some key issues in regard to deficit reduction in the US budget. It argues that the US must address both the weak labor market and an unsustainable fiscal path over the medium and long term. The author is resigned to the fact that the era of gridlock government is unlikely to disappear overnight, advocating that the country must figure out how to function with it.
