This testimony addresses the issues in achieving long term goals for Afghanistan and the near term implications of those required actions. The author reflects on the long term vision needed to guide short term decisions in Afghanistan and draws several implications from that. The author contends that the main problem facing Afghanistan today is corruption and misgovernance arguing that if nothing is done there exists a risk of undermining the efficacy of the military tool that should take up the slack as foreign forces are draw down.
