The paper analyzes the impact of the introduction of a model of sustainable development to protect the Amazonian biodiversity and to implement measures to prevent deforestation and commercial exploitation of the Amazon basin. The author highlights the considerable economic values of the Amazonian area, covered extensively by oil and gas blocks zoned for hydrocarbon infrastructures. Moreover, it is argued that a major threat is the increasing international protests and movements supporting the indigenous rights to preserve their traditional lands.
