Since 9/11 the American counter-terrorism posture has been extraordinarily aggressive, both domestically and globally.This paper explores the evolution of the homegrown terrorist threat to US homeland and examines possible future scenarios. As argued in this paper, the wave of arrests of that took place in 2009 has contributed to paint a picture of the complex and rapidly changing reality of terrorism of Islamist inspirations in the US. Moreover, they severely undermine the common assumption that traditionally American Muslims were virtually immune to radicalization.
