This publication reflects on the future of Russia’s energy sector. The author contends that Russia is in an extremely difficult position: it has a stagnant economy, decreasing revenues, an inefficient energy sector, growing international isolation, and an urgent need to diversify the economy away from oil and gas. However, the country has no clear idea how to accomplish that, with many conflicting interests preventing the setting of a clear and coherent long-term vision.
