The commentary analyzes the American security posture ten years after 9-11. The author endorses the 9-11 Commission conclusion that there is no doubt that the US is much better prepared than 10 years ago, but is not yet where it needs to be. He notes that implementing best practices alone will not be enough. Western civilization needs to be strong and confident enough to defeat an adversary like al Qaeda. Unless the American culture consistently summons the will to defend itself, yet another commission will ask why the lessons of 9-11 were not understood and embraced.
