On 4 July 2012, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) was rejected by the European Parliament. This commentary argues that the decision is a step towards maintaining the open character of the Internet and should be considered a victory for European internet users. This political mobilization of Internet users from all around Europe should be considered a vital asset for the movement to maintain an open Internet.
