The note explores the case of deportation of individuals to countries where they may face a real risk of torture. It is argued that refugees may be removed if their presence in the host country poses a threat to national security. However, it has been recognized as international common obligation that refugees should not be returned to places where their lives or freedoms could be threatened. The authors analyze the main international human rights frameworks and conventions and they also offer an overview of some human rights cases.
