This paper examines the possibilities to opt-in in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice that are granted to the UK and Ireland under the Lisbon Treaty. The author examines how Justice and Home Affairs are handled in the Lisbon Treaty and the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice. Furthermore, the author looks at the decisions to opt-in that the UK government has taken after the Treaty of Lisbon has come into force.
