This policy brief examines three important regional security organizations in East Africa: the East African Community (EAC), the East African Standby Forces (EASF), and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). It analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of their very different capabilities and their contrasting approaches to safeguarding both regional security and the distinct interests of individual states.
