This paper sets out some of the key proposals for including a security-related theme within the post-MDG framework. Five proposals are apparent from the policy literature, each incorporating aspects of security in a different manner. If efforts to include security in the post-MDG development framework is less about ensuring that appropriate policy actions are formulated to sustainably (and appropriately) address insecurity and more about putting security-related issues on the political agenda in order to begin a dialogue, then the post-MDGs might be a useful vehicle for doing so.
