This paper looks at the EU’s Southern Gas Corridor initiative, created to facilitate diversification of gas routes and sources for the Union. Implementation of the corridor has become possible almost entirely due to measures taken by Azerbaijan and Turkey. The author argues that if the EU wishes to ensure that implementation of the project retains at least some of its original design, Brussels has little choice but to take into account the preferences of Azerbaijan and Turkey at the expense of its own original plans.
