The campaigns ahead of parliamentary elections in Belarus in September highlighted the lack of dialogue between the authorities and society. They also underlined the problems of the Belarusian opposition, i.e., internal divisions and a lack of the resources required to conduct political agitation. Despite its weakness, this paper argues that Poland and other EU countries should support all initiatives aimed at developing Belarusian civil society, which could result in increasing Belarusians' political participation and raise awareness of the need for change.
