This essay discusses the selection of the new chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), but within the context of the broader organization's recent crises and it desire to bring Africa closer to political union. The essay supports this drive for union, but it also recognizes that it is contingent upon African citizens, heads of state, and governments embracing the AU as a force for good throughout the Continent.
