This paper looks at the longstanding territorial dispute between Japan, China and Taiwan over the uninhabited Senkaku Islands (otherwise known as the Diaoyu Islands in China). In light of the numerous anti-Japanese demonstrations that have occurred throughout China over the dispute, the authors argue that Beijing cannot afford to let nationalist sentiment get out of hand and turn into vocal resistance against the government itself.
