The Chinese government recently issued a White Paper on the Diao Yu Dao/Senkaku Islands territorial dispute with Japan. In response, this Issue Brief presents the historical and legal debate surrounding the dispute and in the process underscores the inconsistencies and weaknesses present in the White Paper's claims.
