Spanish politics from July-September 2012 were overwhelmingly dominated by the Eurozone crisis and the absence of externally coordinated action on Spain's debt. Given this state of affairs, it should surprise no one that increased commercial diplomacy dominated Madrid's foreign policy. While concentrating in this area, however, Madrid must also strengthen its position in international fora and reestablish a positive narrative about the country. A more prominent international presence by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy would help this process.
