This commentary focuses on the peace negotiations occurring in Oslo between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). A successful end to this 50-year-old conflict, the commentary argues, would contribute to Colombia’s stability, further improve its economic attractiveness and regional position, and enhance its cooperation with the European Union (EU). In the last case, the commentary calls upon the EU to help ‘legitimize’ the peace process, and to provide financial and technical assistance for assorted peace and stability initiatives.
